Welcome to Southend Canoe Club Chair's Message.

Well what's been happening since I last scribed to you all?

Trips have been well supported in many ways, numbers and help in organising which is always extremely helpful.

Thanks to Tina and John for the January trip. Sounds like again a fun trip with new rivers being paddled. I am sure a few more stories will migrate out soon.

Due to the flooding in Cumbria late last year the February trip has moved accommodation location but still going ahead thanks to our York agents Becky and Michael Laing. It's not easy finding a bunkhouse to sleep 20 people near to where we want to paddle, and sometimes these are now (the popular ones) booked up 6 - 8 months in advance.

We strive to have a trip once a month in the winter for the more intrepid between us, but also sedate trips in the summer season.

Pool session at Clements hall are now well underway. These have recently been low on numbers so please come along and bring others even if there are not members. We have kayaks that they can have a go in.

If you know of any groups that would like to have a go please don't hesitate to contact myself or any other committee members for information, Scouts, Guides other youth or adult sections.

The social secretaries Emma and Sally are well underway in providing the club with events throughout the year. These events which are on the calendar page can be attended by non-paddlers as well, or even if you would like to have a go.

Summer weekday paddles are alternate Thursdays and Fridays for the summer months as requested. Please see the calendar page for details. I know it's difficult to get to but really they are good once you're out on the water.

Thank you to the committee as without them the club would not survive and supports the chair person in many ways, which leads me to say this will be my last year as Chair. Thank you for voting for me but it is time for someone else to take this up. I am sure one of you will come forward and take on this fine role.

It's been good representing the club and I have been lucky to have such good support. I will still be about and organising the odd trip.

    Lee Emmett
    Southend Canoe Club Chairman
